U.S.-Made Outdoor Clothing Company NW Alpine Closing, Launches Final Sale

NW Alpine, the well-known American-made clothing brand, has announced that it is going out of business after more than a decade of serving the alpine climbing community. The company confirmed that the NW Alpine liquidation process has already begun, with its website promoting a "Last Chance Sale." Loyal customers are being urged to stock up on climbing gear and apparel before supplies run out.

The decision behind NW Alpine going out of business was driven by cash flow issues despite recording year-over-year revenue growth. Founder Bill Amos explained that weaker consumer confidence and a stagnant outdoor industry made it impossible to continue. However, he emphasized that the closure should not be seen as proof that U.S.-made outdoor clothing companies cannot survive. Instead, he pointed to brands like Youer, Wuru Wool, Burgeon Outdoors, and Alpine Fit that continue to carry the "Made in USA" banner.

The company’s outdoor apparel liquidation sale will take place in stages, starting at full price and moving toward deeper discounts until all stock is sold. NW Alpine also holds a substantial inventory of fabrics that will be made available to interested buyers. For many climbers, NW Alpine apparel has been a trusted staple, and the brand is encouraging customers to purchase their favorite pieces before they disappear permanently.

The NW Alpine liquidation also reignites debate over the challenges of U.S. manufacturing in the apparel industry. While many consumers say they prefer to buy American, experts note that price and quality often drive purchasing decisions more than country of origin. For now, NW Alpine’s closure leaves its loyal customers turning to other U.S.-made outdoor clothing companies that remain committed to local production and small-batch, high-performance gear.
